How to Make Heart Shaped Thumbprint Cookies
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
Combine flour and salt in a bowl using a whisk. Beat softened butter, sugar, and cream cheese together until light and fluffy—about 2 to 3 minutes.
Mix in egg yolks, vanilla extract, and optional almond extract until smooth.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
Roll the dough into 1-tablespoon balls and place them on your prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between them.
Create two small indentations in each ball using your thumb or back of a spoon to form a heart shape.
Fill each heart shape with a dollop of your favorite jam or Nutella.
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just golden.
Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For best results, ensure butter and cream cheese are softened at room temperature before mixing. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
