Method

How to Make Heart Shaped Thumbprint Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Combine flour and salt in a bowl using a whisk. Beat softened butter, sugar, and cream cheese together until light and fluffy—about 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Mix in egg yolks, vanilla extract, and optional almond extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-tablespoon balls and place them on your prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between them.
  6. Create two small indentations in each ball using your thumb or back of a spoon to form a heart shape.
  7. Fill each heart shape with a dollop of your favorite jam or Nutella.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just golden.
  9. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
