Method

Preparation
  1. Brew a strong cup of espresso using your favorite blend. Allow it to cool completely, then stir in sugar and coffee liqueur (if desired) until dissolved.
  2. Mix the mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Beat together until smooth and creamy.
  3. Whip the heavy cream in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold the whipped cream gently into the mascarpone mixture, maintaining the lightness.
  5. Layer the espresso mixture in serving cups, followed by a layer of ladyfinger pieces. Add a layer of mascarpone cream on top.
  6. Continue with more layers of espresso mixture, ladyfinger, and finish with mascarpone cream on top.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Dust the tops with cocoa powder before serving and optionally garnish with chocolate shavings or coffee beans.
  9. Serve chilled to enjoy the delightful flavors.
