Ingredients

For the Chicken

For the Coating
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour Creates a barrier that helps the egg and breadcrumbs stick well.
  • 2 Large eggs (beaten) Helps the breadcrumb coating adhere and locks in moisture.
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs (preferably panko) For an extra crunch, panko breadcrumbs are the perfect choice.
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan cheese Adds a salty, nutty flavor to the coating, enhancing the crispy texture.
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder A hint of garlic elevates the dish without overpowering other flavors.
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano Gives a delightful earthy note that complements the cheese and chicken.
  • 1 tsp Dried basil Adds a touch of sweetness and authentic Italian flavor to the dish.
For Frying

For Assembly
  • 2 cups Marinara sauce A rich, flavorful sauce that brings the whole dish together.
  • 1 cup Shredded mozzarella cheese Melts beautifully, providing that gooey, cheesy goodness.
  • 1/4 cup Fresh basil leaves For garnish, adding a pop of color and a burst of freshness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Pound the chicken between two sheets of plastic wrap to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Set up three shallow dishes for flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, and basil.
  3. Bread each chicken breast by dipping in flour, then beaten eggs, and finally coating with the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Heat about 1/2 inch of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
  5. Carefully fry the breaded chicken breasts for 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) while the chicken is frying.
  7. Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce in a baking dish, place the fried chicken on top, add more marinara sauce and sprinkle mozzarella cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  9. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve hot.
