Making the Donuts
In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it's foamy.
In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, warm milk, melted butter, egg yolks, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir well.
Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with cloth, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
Roll the dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thick. Cut out rounds and let them rise for 30 minutes.
Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
Roll warm donuts in granulated sugar for a sugary coating.
Fill each donut with strawberry jam using a piping bag or spoon.
Notes
Optional: Dust with powdered sugar for extra sweetness.
