Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup Warm water 110–115°F
  • 2 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup Sugar divided
  • 1 cup Warm whole milk 110–115°F
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter melted
  • 3 large Egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour sifted
Filling and Coating
  • 1 cup Strawberry jam or raspberry jam
  • 2 large Egg whites beaten
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar for coating

Method

Making the Donuts
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it's foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the remaining sugar, warm milk, melted butter, egg yolks, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir well.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Knead for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with cloth, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  5. Roll the dough on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thick. Cut out rounds and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for about 1 minute on each side until golden brown.
  7. Roll warm donuts in granulated sugar for a sugary coating.
  8. Fill each donut with strawberry jam using a piping bag or spoon.
