How to Make Butter-Basted Steak with Thyme
  1. Remove the steaks from the refrigerator and place them at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  2. Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
  4. Sear the steaks in the hot skillet without moving them for 4–5 minutes.
  5. Flip the steaks carefully using tongs to avoid losing those delicious juices.
  6. Add the butter, fresh thyme, and crushed garlic (if using) to the skillet immediately after flipping the steaks.
  7. Baste the steaks by tilting the skillet slightly, drizzling the melted butter over them for an additional 3–5 minutes.
  8. Transfer the steaks to a cutting board and let them rest for about 5–10 minutes.
  9. Slice the steaks against the grain and serve them with the pan juices drizzled on top.
