Here, Ember Lawson shares reliable, family-friendly recipes that fit busy days, slow weekends, and everything in between. Every dish is created and tested in her home kitchen, with simple ingredients, clear steps, and flavors that feel warm and familiar.
Meet Ember Lawson

Hi, I’m Ember — a home cook, recipe developer, and mom who spends most days between the stove and the kitchen table. I didn’t go to culinary school; I learned to cook the way many people do: burning a few dinners, asking a lot of questions, and slowly building a collection of recipes that actually work.
For years I scribbled notes on sticky papers and cookbook margins: “less salt,” “more garlic,” “kids loved this,” “make again for Sunday.” EmberSpoon is the place where those notes turned into recipes you can trust and use in your own kitchen.
Cooking for real families, not perfect photos
The recipes on EmberSpoon are designed for real life: hungry kids, tired evenings, and friends dropping by at the last minute. I focus on:
- Cozy, comforting meals that feel homemade, not complicated
- Simple, affordable ingredients you can find in a regular grocery store
- Step-by-step instructions that guide you without extra fluff
- Practical tips and variations so you can adapt recipes to your family
You’ll see my daughter pop up in photos from time to time, because that’s what dinner actually looks like in our home — a bit messy, a bit loud, but full of warmth.
How recipes are tested
I want you to feel confident that when you choose an EmberSpoon recipe, it will work.
That’s why every recipe goes through a simple process:
- Idea & first test – I start with a base idea and cook it in my own kitchen, taking notes on timing, texture, and flavor.
- Refining the details – I adjust ingredients, measurements, and steps until the recipe is clear and repeatable.
- Real-life check – I make sure the instructions make sense for busy home cooks: minimal dishes when possible, realistic prep times, and helpful make-ahead or storage notes.
If something doesn’t turn out the way I hoped, it doesn’t go on the site. Only the recipes that earn a spot at our family table make it to EmberSpoon.
Our photos and ingredients
All of the food photos on EmberSpoon are shot using real recipes made in my kitchen — no fake ice cream or painted grill marks. What you see on the screen is what you can serve on your own table.
When I recommend a product or tool, it’s something I genuinely use and find helpful. If a link is sponsored or affiliate-based, I’ll always let you know. Transparency and trust matter here.
